Objectives

Based on these hypotheses, the main objective of C3RiskMed is

to characterize compound risks on the Spanish Mediterranean peninsular coast associated with the presence of heavy rainfall, and coastal storms (high waves and surges) events, and how these risks will be affected by climate change.

In order to achieve this, a series of partial objectives are considered. These are:

O1. To characterize the occurrence of different types of compound natural risks in the NW Mediterranean coast, and to identify dominant weather (synoptic and mesoscale) patterns under which they are generated.

O2. To characterize the remarkability of the different types of events by assessing their impact in terms of induced damages and required risk management measures.

O3. To identify the contribution of climatic and societal drivers to the impact for each type of events.

O4. To assess the future coastal risk from compound events under selected scenarios of climate change.

O5. To identify and analyze adaptation strategies to manage compound risks adapted to socio-environmental conditions of the Spanish Mediterranean.
